If We See the Decline of the Craze of Attacking Play, Let’s Appreciate Its Legacy.

The Evolution of a Phenomenon is often defined by specific steps.

1. The Big Idea

A dominant personality or figureheads present an innovative concept offering a panacea for struggling players.

So here we are. Preparations are underway to confront the system overseas. The gunships are circling. Signs of trouble appear from within. A lone figure, naked, nervous, the slogan POSITIVE INTENT smeared across his chest as a symbol, has come staggering from the field and is being led away in secrecy for a temporary assignment at Derbyshire.

Do you recall the early days, when the world was still young? The initial phase, of Bazball without brains.

2. The Honeymoon Phase

Movement founders guarantee a reboot, a brighter tomorrow, love, success within a community who all believe in the method.

How did it feel initially? Just men on a balcony feeling good. Body art. Muscles. Focus. Confident masculinity. Of course, The team insist it’s not a real term, amusingly since it’s not recognized, what exactly did I just watch?

Yet it’s clear what it is. It’s the batsman attempting a move so outrageous it has to be pixelated. It’s the excitement of the leader in ultimate mode, a demeanor suggesting: pensive Nordic god, rugged appearance, natural look, truly contemporary you almost imagine to notice and see him playing in the field bare-chested embracing nature.

It’s the opener often seen speaking publicly, resembling a happy little woodland creature smartly dressed, expressing thoughts like we’re challenging norms. And yes, the energy, for a significant period, was only good energy.

3. A New Life

Growth phase. Cohesion maintained via memorization of mantras. These ideas can appear contradictory as a loyalty check.

Does anyone else feel? The criticism, the fury, the feeling of letdown after the first Ashes Test defeat seems too strong, unwarranted. The batting collapsed in Perth, as is typical there. They were torn apart in the field in a short span when tactics failed, manipulated by the opponent batting like England but better, adjusting to the pitch, a performer excelling with aura.

Currently, we see the criticism, the anger, the view of the sport as a kind of abomination. The opinion suggests that losing isn’t enough, they need to lose righteously, to be scoured, obliterated, overwhelmed by the vengeful purity of Mitchell Starc’s movements, the simple basics of the veteran, marking his wickets humbly as if receiving a pleasant gift. What will this do to them?

4. The Backlash Phase

Issues emerge due to setbacks. Yet, mistakes are denied. It starts to feed on hatred of the outside world.

Ultimately, a few days before the next match, we have now reached an intriguing moment in the story of this approach. Victory is possible overseas in a blur of adrenal disruption. Alternatively, defeat could come swiftly. And if they do lose it feels like we really might be entering the death cult phase.

Ahead of this, a couple of points worth saying about this. Previously, during the initial excitement, of optimism and energy, I wrote an article calling it a phenomenon. There was outrage, which proved the point since it’s clear how to confirm lack of cult status is when its acolytes respond with anger denying scrutiny of its truths.

What has happened recently is just as interesting. Criticism of the approach is now the trend. Social media is furious, critical analysts, images of frustrated travelling fans disappointed by the short match, reminiscent of investors demanding recourse.

On the other hand, we have the wider backdrop of Australia’s more nuanced deep-seated frustration with the aggressive tourists, claiming, your cherished traditions and have fostered and nurtured to distinguish yourselves from the opposition, it’s just a joke after all.

And this is the real point. All movements are similar. Bazball was a cult because cricket is a cult. In fact, the sport in England is closed, a circle, an elite gathering, an insular community with a long history of tradition and mystery defining it. This has always been where influence is guarded. It’s the imperial sport of the nation, the pioneering brand. And surprisingly, the nation has its own culture, a system of unknown levels, a royal family remains.

The team have been sealed up in this environment for years. Attempting to break free, to build a better atmosphere, they are simply replicating their upbringing, building another enclosure, a limited community, however with 15 cool guys and a mentor who wants you to be yourself provided you conform.

Stay present. Embrace challenges. But no matter how fast and far you run, you’re always basically in the same place.

With this mind, now is the time to have some sympathy for the movement, to appreciate its good points, that are numerous. How to define it? Promoting liberation. Defying norms. Batting aggressively|Attacking with
