Pat Bamford Joins Sheffield United Despite Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

The striker is now a member of the Championship side only half a year following leading insulting chants targeting the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds, has put pen to paper on a deal joining the second-tier strugglers until January. Bamford's lengthy spell with Leeds finished by mutual consent this past summer.

Among Bamford’s last memorable actions while at Leeds involved leading offensive songs about Wilder amid the club’s success festivities this spring. Currently, the one-cap England international will feature under Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to rescue his beloved club out of the relegation zone.

Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager

The pair had a past before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described Bamford as “a muppet” when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and the Blades won automatic promotion while Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends & Moving Forward

Everything appears has been resolved with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to revive his career.

The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Chris Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem whatsoever with that. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I appreciated and admired him giving me a call.

“We had a short while and similarly I spoke to Daniel Farke as well and we had a half-hour chat together and he's a super guy, a top guy. When I was playing we used to dish it out and take it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, even on Sunday league. I have no problem at all. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Recent Playing Challenges

Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough striker has faced difficulties with injury over the past few seasons.
